Omnichannel retailer for pet products

Miura Private Equity acquired a 51% stake of TiendAnimal in September 2014. Tiendanimal is a leading Spanish-based retailer, specialized in pet care products, offering pet food, hygiene products and other accessories both on the online channel and through its network of stores. The company employs more than 120 people, owns more than 60 stores in Spain and Portugal.

The Management team and Miura envisioned a Business Plan focused on growth through four main initiatives: i) consolidating the company’s online leading position in Spain and Portugal, ii) expanding its online presence in other Southern European markets (mainly in France and Italy, where the company has already launched operations), iii) reinforcing its omnichannel strategy in Iberia, with a view to see through a significant number of store openings and iv) continuing to focus on product range (broad product assortment and own brand presence in all levels) while increasing competitiveness in sourcing.

Tiendanimal was founded as a business focused on e-commerce. After Miura’s exit the company had 65 stores in Spain and one in Portugal. The retailer increased the number of products offered (30,000), including own-brand products, and expanded the range of services offered that also include veterinarian clinic services. In addition, its turnover grown every year, from EUR 27 million in 2014 to EUR 113 million in 2019.

Tiendanimal also developed social-impact policies and actions based on alliances with pet shelters and environmental awareness-raising initiatives.
