Wikiloc, a leading outdoor trail navigation platform, strengthens its shareholding with Miura Partners

  • The Company offers outdoor activities through its digital platform to more than 12 million users worldwide.

  • Wikiloc is the second company backed by Miura’s Impact Fund, targeting high-growth SMEs within sustainable market niches.

Wikiloc, a leading navigation software for outdoor activities in Southern Europe, has partnered with Miura to accelerate its international growth and further expand its value proposition through new product developments.

Wikiloc promotes outdoor activities through its digital platform, allowing its global community to discover, follow and share hiking and cycling trails and many other activities, from running to backcountry skiing. All trails are safe, environmentally friendly and beneficial to users, by improving health and life expectancy.

Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Girona, Wikiloc has grown exponentially and currently has more than 12 million users and over 43 million routes worldwide. Wikiloc’s founders, Jordi Ramot and Montserrat Jordi, will continue to hold a majority stake and lead the project in this new stage.

The company will implement a plan to accelerate international expansion, reinforce the team and strengthen services through greater accessibility and inclusion of environmentally friendly outdoor activities. In addition, Wikiloc will build on Miura’s experience in scaling high-growth projects globally.

Miura has backed Wikiloc through its Impact Fund, targeting purpose-driven high-growth SMEs that address sustainable goals (SDGs). It is the second deal completed in 2023, after its first investment earlier this year in Tierra, a leading company developing sustainable green spaces.

Healthier lives to prevent diseases linked to sedentary lifestyles

The United Nations, through its Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Health and Well-being), aims to reduce by 30% premature mortality caused by non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which account for 71% of global deaths. Most of these diseases are directly correlated with sedentary lifestyles and, according to World Health Organization (WHO), regular physical activity can reduce the risk of premature death due to NCDs by 20-30%.

Wikiloc seeks to democratize and to encourage outdoor activities with the objective of reducing sedentary lifestyles, improving people’s quality of life and increasing their life expectancy. Thanks to Wikiloc, thousands of users of all ages can discover new trails around the world shared by other community members and enjoy outdoor activities in a safe and healthy way.

Jordi Ramot, Founder & CEO of Wikiloc:

“We are convinced that a future where we spend more time doing outdoor activities, enjoying and preserving nature is fundamentally better for everyone. We are excited to continue pursuing that destination with Miura team as fellow travelers and leverage their experience to boost our growth and bring the Wikiloc experience to more people and countries.”

Luis Seguí, Founding Partner and CEO of Miura Partners:

“Wikiloc is the kind of project that we want to support from our Impact Fund: a company with a clear vision and business model oriented to social impact, and a great potential for growth and scalability. Together with Jordi, Montse and the rest of the team, we will drive a consistent growth plan while preserving the company’s core values.”

Miura has been advised by GPBullhound (M&A) and Baker&McKenzie (legal advice), while Wikiloc has been advised by Clipperton (M&A) and Callol, Coca&Asociados (legal advice).
